In early March of 2022, registered voters in Cutler Bay will automatically receive a ballot in the mail to vote and decide if a General Obligation Bond (GO Bond) for up to $37 Million will fund the construction of a Legacy Park and Municipal Complex on the 16 acres of vacant land located in the heart of our Town (east of Old Cutler Road and north of SW 212 Street).

The vision for this potential project is to transform this parcel into a central gathering place for our community—with a park, community center, municipal complex and other recreational features residents can enjoy

What Is A General Obligation Bond?

A General Obligation Bond, or GO Bond, serves as a way local governments can raise funds for public projects that will serve the community. It’s secured by the full faith and credit of the issuer, or simply put, by the local government’s ability to raise taxes.

Why
Is It
Needed?

A GO Bond is very similar to a mortgage for a homeowner. It’s a loan that taxpayers pay over time and it allows for public projects to be completed much sooner than if funded from the government’s operating budget.

What are authorized uses for the bond?

Bond proceeds can only be used for the approved purpose indicated on the bond referendum question—which is to develop a park, community center and municipal Building on the 16 acres located on Old Cutler Road and SW 212 Street.

What will it cost me?

If the GO Bond is approved, the estimated tax increase the average homeowner would see is about $89 per year. This average cost is based on a 30-year, $37 Million GO Bond at current interest rates and estimated millage rate.
